Biography

Evolving from a background in printmaking and illustration, Lincoln Lute (b.1991) is a figurative painter living and working in Brooklyn, New York.
While completing his Bachelor of Arts in 2013, his work took shape under the title ‘Our Lives Italicized’—framing technology and the ever-increasing pace of modern life as detrimental to our well-being and sense of self.
His paintings depict figures in two contrasting states: that of calm, thoughtful reflection and that of frenetic motion, where the demands of tech-fueled capitalism cause the subjects to blur, distort, or dissolve entirely.
Lute’s upbringing in Idaho, steeped in the history and imagery of the American West, informs his visual narration as he explores themes of labor, isolation and shifting notions of masculinity.
